What is Direct Primary care?
According to the AAFP (American Academy of Family Physicians) “The Direct Primary Care (DPC) model is a practice and payment model where patients/consumers pay their physician or practice directly in the form of periodic payments for a defined set of primary care services. DPC practices typically charge patients a flat monthly or annual fee, under terms of a contract, in exchange for access to a broad range of primary care and medical administrative services. The DPC practice framework includes any practice model structured around direct contracting with patients/consumers for monthly or annual fees which serve to replace the traditional system of third party insurance coverage for primary care services. Typically, these periodic payments provide patients enhanced services over traditional fee-for-service medicine. Such services may include real time access via advanced communication technology to their personal physician, extended visits, in some cases home-based medical visits, and highly personalized, coordinated, and comprehensive care administration”
Why is this model of benefit to me?
By removing the confusing, barriers of insurance and by limiting patient panel size per provider we are able to bring lower costs to you and create stronger more meaningful patient-provider relationships. Through eliminating the middle man and combining high quality care with direct access to your provider we see happier, healthier patients with lower medical costs.
Becoming a member not only brings you cost savings but members are guaranteed same to next day appointments and direct access to your provider if you have questions or concerns in between appointments via email, text or phone.
Is DPC insurance?
No we are not insurance, we are a cash pay and subscription based medical model which can be a great adjunct to insurance especially high deductible plans but we are not considered insurance ourselves.
Do DPC patient’s need insurance?
Insurance is not required to be seen at a DPC clinic. The membership fee covers unlimited house calls and telemedicine visits - no need to worry about copays or paying a coinsurance every time. Many of your testing is also either fully covered or heavily discounted to allow you to achieve wellness with less money out of pocket. However, our membership fees will not apply to outside specialists or the emergency room. Most DPC patients choose to couple their DPC membership with a high deductible insurance plan that is combined with an HSA. This allows you can set aside pretax dollars for other visits - ER, specialists, etc. and still save on your monthly premiums with the less costly high deductible plan.
What if I already have insurance, can I use it?
While you can’t use insurance to cover our costs directly we do provider itemized receipts you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement and you can still file send out labs and imaging requests with insurance if you would prefer. While your membership fees do not go towards your deductible you can deduct your membership fees as a medical expense on your taxes.
If I don’t use insurance can I use my FSA/HSA card?
Absolutely, you can use your FSA or HSA to pay for individual cash pay services. However, as per IRS regulations, your HSA cannot be used for membership fees, but you can use your FSA card to pay for your membership fees.
Do you take Medicare?
At this time we are not taking Medicare patients. We are working towards creating a contract in which we will be able to accept medicare patients and allow them to benefit from our memberships. However, at this time we are not accepting any Medicare patients and we will not be billing Medicare for services.
